Overseas Programs
All overseas food security programming is the responsibility of FRB's member organizations which propose, implement, monitor, complete, and report on the programs approved by FRB and funded through growing project proceeds sent to FRB. The programs are implemented in-country directly by the members or their proven indigenous partners, meaning that FRB does not have to duplicate expensive infrastructure. Therefore, all of the revenue generated by a community growing project goes for programming to help hungry people feed themselves and their families. This is possible because FRB relies heavily on volunteers, and its administrative costs are paid by its members, special administrative donations and grants.

THERE IS HOPE
(2007 statistics)
All food aid provided by all nations reaches only about 10% of the 850 million people who are dealing with chronic hunger and malnutrition.
These programs are needed but expensive. It is estimated that feeding a family in Africa with food aid (grown in the U.S. and shipped) costs about $585/year. Feeding that family with food grown and purchased locally costs about $240/year. Providing them with the resources they need to grow their own food...$30/year.
Of the 1 billion people who live in extreme poverty (less than $1/day) 70% live in rural areas. These are the people with whom FRB works, through our members and their in-country partners.
During 2008 alone, 210 US growing projects supported 58 food security programs in 32 countries, so that more than 490,000 people in some of our planet’s most challenging circumstances could do what it takes to feed their families and improve their lives through FRB and its members’ agricultural development programs.
